Clean Up Mail Clutter

I recently asked the question on our Facebook page "What is one area of your house that always seems to get cluttered?" The overwhelming response was the kitchen counter. That has always been an issue for me as well. I have started a system for receipts, bills and paid bills.

When I bring my mail inside I automatically go through, open all the envelopes and throw out the junk mail. I find doing this right away cuts down on the amount of "stuff" on your countertop. I have a three tiered organization basket that I got from Ikea. The first tier is for receipts to be entered in the computer. Tier two is for bills that need to be paid and the third is for receipts and bills that have been paid and need to be filed (I empty these weekly).

If I get coupons in the mail I go through them and cut out the ones I want to keep and put them on my refrigertor. I stack magazines next to my filing system to remind myself to read them and get rid of them.

Here are some great ideas for storage systems.

Send me a picture of your cluttered counter and be entered for a chance to win a Martha Stewart Home Office™ with Avery™ Stack+Fit™ Shagreen Organizer in your choice or white or brown (a $14.99 value). Pictures must be received by midnight July 22nd.
